CREAD (1)_optWelcome to the fifth edition of CREAD- CRitical Evaluation, Appraisal and Discussion.

This very much takes its inspiration from the work of the team over at Life in The Fast Lane which provides regular round ups of some of the many resources available via the internet which makes our learning easier.

We are attempting something similar here, but the difference is that the contributors are from specialties other than medicine. So we have paramedics, nurses, and physios to name just a few. They are all experienced in their fields, regular internet learners and Twitter users. Some have written articles and some have pointed out some of the resources they have come across on their internet travels.

This will be a bi-monthly effort initially. If it becomes popular and the hard working contributors can find the time then I hope it will become more regular.

I do want to emphasize that it is the work of the contributors that makes it work…..I am just the coordinator.

Gavin Denton has treated us to an extensive review of some of the evidence out there on apneic oxygenation. Should we do it or are we wasting our time? There are also some links at the end to other resources on the web on the same topic.
Tom Hreben  wonders what we can do about the palliative patient in the Emergency Department. He asks lots of thoughtful questions which might make us all question our practice.
 Nicola Credland wants to point out the fabulous BACCN resource for its members to use……

“Learn Zone is now live!

The Learn Zone provides BACCN members with the opportunity to take part in interactive e-learning which will provide CPD hours towards your NMC revalidation. The Learn Zone is a new initiative for existing or new BACCN members which will allow you to have access to education and learning resources relating to critical care practice. The learn zone consists of an e-learning tracheostomy module which includes simulation video clips which demonstrates the latest tracheostomy evidence based  recommendations for nursing a patient with a tracheostomy. Upon successful completion of the module, the participant will gain a certificate for 2 CPD hours which can be used for NMC revalidation. This is the BACCN first e-learning module with the aim of us producing further modules in the future.
